Sarah Colgan - Co-Head Coach
Sarah has been involved with ringette for over 30 years, 28 years as a player and the past 5 years coaching her daughters at the FUN1, FUN2 and U10 levels. Guided by True Sport Principles, Sarah believes in all different types of athletes and developing each one as an individual as well as a team member. Sarah understands the importance of girls in sport having a female role model and believes strongly that the leadership skills developed in ringette provide lifelong benefit. Sarah is committed to continuous education and jumps at opportunities to develop her knowledge and expand her coaching skills. Sarah is looking forward to being a part of Scotia Storm to challenge herself and the athletes to work to their highest potential while creating new relationships in the ringette community. Outside of ringette, Sarah is working on her PhD of Nursing Science at Queen’s University and enjoys golfing with her husband and sometimes even Coach Meghan!
Meghan Robertson - Co-Head Coach
With a deep love for the sport, Meghan has been involved in ringette for several years, both as a player, skating instructor and a coach. She is committed to helping young athletes develop their skills, build teamwork, and most importantly, have fun on and off the ice.
A physical educator for 14 years, Meghan has a strong background in fostering physical literacy and developing athleticism in children. In addition to her teaching experience, she has coached numerous other sports, bringing a wealth of knowledge in movement, strategy, and team dynamics. This diverse coaching experience allows Meghan to approach ringette with a well-rounded perspective, ensuring that her players receive well-rounded training in both technique and teamwork.
As a coach, Meghan focuses on fostering a positive and encouraging environment where every player feels supported in their growth, both individually and as part of the team. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic, all while ensuring the players enjoy their time on the ice and form lasting friendships.
When she's not at the rink coaching or playing hockey or ringette, you can usually find her driving her four children to various sports and activities - embracing the busy and rewarding life of a sports parent! In the summer you can find Meghan at the golf course looking for Coach Sarah's golf balls in the woods!
Daniel Boyce - Assistant Coach
Dan jumped into the wild and wonderful world of ringette nine years ago, following his daughters, Hazel and Olive, onto the ice. Since then, he has been coaching at various levels, from Fun 1 to U14, and was an assistant coach with the Scotia Storm U10 team in the 2023/2024 season. A lifelong athlete and former track and field coach, Dan knows the lasting impact of sports - building not just physical skills but resilience, confidence, and teamwork. He loves being part of that journey, coaching with a focus on fun, sportsmanship, and respect. When he’s not tying skates at the rink, you’ll often find him playing frisbee at the beach with his dog Nemo, tending his greenhouse, shooting hoops, or surfing the waves behind his house.
SCOTIA STORM U12A
CJ Purdy - Head Coach and Scotia Storm Ringette Founder
CJ is a seasoned coach, having Head Coached U12 HCL (2023), U10 HCL (2022), U12 Scotia Storm (2024), U10 Scotia Storm (2023) and U10 HCL (2023). He has also acted in an on-ice assistant role with U10 HCL in 2022. CJ had also coached in the hockey world for six years between 2000-2006 within the U12 to U18 age groups. Outside of the rink, CJ's career with the Department of Community Services keeps him busy, where he has held Director and Manager roles over the past decade. CJ's daughter, Brynn, has played with Scotia Storm since its inception in 2023.
Marc Jessome - Assistant Coach
Marc has been coaching in the world of ringette over the past eight years with the Harbour City Lakers Ringette Association and with Scotia Storm ringette since it's inception in 2023. Marc has two daughters in the sport, Lyndsey and Paige. Outside of the rink, Marc has had a very successful career in the Golf and Hospitality Industry, where he has worked for over 30 years. He has held various roles including a Golf Professional and General Manager at Hartlen Point Golf Club for the past 24 years.
Dean Tucker - Assistant Coach
Dean was born in central Canada but moved to Nova Scotia in his early teenage years. Dean’s introduction to skating and ice sports came at the age of 5 when he started skating on frozen outdoor ponds and backyard garden rinks. He started playing hockey when he was 8 years old in the Ottawa region and played competitively until the age of 21. One of his fondest memories growing up was skating on the Rideau Canal under the lights while kicking a puck around the ice like a soccer ball with his dad. Dean still skates regularly and plays gentlemen’s hockey two or three time per week.
Dean’s coaching career started in his late teens when he would help with local hockey schools and hockey teams. Dean’s introduction to ringette came when his oldest daughter joined ringette in 2017 and he’s been hooked ever since. Dean has three daughters that all play ringette. He has coached a variety of age groups, including U7 / U9 / U10 / U12 / & U14, and has held a variety of coaching roles, primarily as an assistant coach or co-head coach. Dean is currently an assistant coach with HCL U9 and HCL U12. Dean was involved with Scotia Storm in 2023 / 2024 and is back for another year of fun with the U12 group.
Dean’s coaching philosophy is to inspire, promote, and develop character athletes by leveraging fair play values. His goal is to create resilient and determined athletes while preaching respect, equality, and sportsmanship towards everyone, regardless of players abilities, background, culture and / or beliefs.
Dean is excited to be part of the 2024/2025 Scotia Storm group and looks forward to working with all the athletes.
Cheryl Campbell - Assistant Coach
Cheryl has dedicated over 35 years to ringette as a player, coach, and referee. She has competed at the Canadian Ringette Championships seven times and played for the Atlantic Sixers in the National Ringette League in 2008. Currently, she plays with the Wolverines in the open 18+ division. Cheryl has also coached at all levels, including assistant coach for the Nova Scotia Provincial Tween and Junior Ringette teams.
Outside of ringette, Cheryl enjoys spending time with her family, often at their cottage in Antigonish or a local campground. An avid traveler, Cheryl has explored many destinations, with a memorable trip in 2008 backpacking across Europe and visiting her sister in Ireland.
SCOTIA STORM U12B
Jonathan Lindal - Head Coach
Born and raised in Upper Canada, Jonathan played the other ice sport played on skates growing up in Merritton, Ontario where he developed a passion for competition, playing competitively until joining the military. After joining the Navy in 2004 and completing Basic Training and Trades Qualification, he was eventually posted to Nova Scotia, where he has lived since 2006. Over the last 20 years he has continued to play competitively, competing for Military Regional Championships in addition to playing military intersection hockey a few times per week.
He has been involved in ringette since 2019 when his daughter refused to pick up a hockey stick. Since then, he has dedicated his time being a student of the game trying to learn about the fastest game on ice and has fallen in love with the sport that his daughters are so passionate about. He has held a variety of positions within the sport in the Harbour City Lakers Association across FUN, U10 and U12 divisions and is currently the Head Coach for his daughter Hazel in the HCL FUN2 program and Assistant coach for his daughter Josephine with the HCL U12 Smash.
Jonathan's coaching philosophy is one that is built on the foundation of hard work, skill development, comradery, having fun and bringing the compete! He promotes a safe sport environment where athletes can participate, compete and test their physical skills and limits while gaining lifelong friendships and skillsets that will set them up for success on and off the ice. He is looking forward to a great spring season with Scotia Storm Ringette!
Jessica Myers - Assistant Coach
Jessica began coaching ringette in 2022 after her daughter, Sadie got involved with the sport. Prior to Storm, she helped coach FUN2 and U10 with Harbour City Lakers. Jessica’s passion for the game developed long before her coaching career. Jessica grew up playing ringette at both the association and provincial levels. She has a competitive nature and is excited to be included in the U12B Storm coaching staff. Jessica believes in a strong work ethic, teamwork and having fun. Player development, game knowledge and strategy, and fostering a love for the game are her priorities for the upcoming spring season. Outside of the rink, Jessica is a Nurse Practitioner at a local family practice. She is also a proud ringette, hockey, cheer and soccer mom.

Leah Gallant - Junior Coach
Leah has been playing ringette for nine years now. She became involved in the sport after being taken to a Come Try Ringette in Rustico, PEI and has loved it ever since! She believes in fostering a fun but competitive environment for all athletes at all developmental stages. She has been a Junior Coach now for four years - two years at the Fun 1/2 level, one season at U10 and currently is a Junior Coach at the U12 level. She has an in-depth understanding of the game not only on a strategic level but also at a rules-based level as she is a Level 2 Official with Ringette Canada. When Leah is not at the rink, she volunteers at a local nursing home and is a Level 7 RCM piano player. Leah is very excited to start this new chapter of her coaching career with the U12B Scotia Storm!
SCOTIA STORM U14
Steve Bennett - Head Coach
Steve grew up playing hockey in his hometown of Grand Bank, Newfoundland, along with many other sports. He continues to play hockey at a recreational level. Eight years ago, he signed his daughter up for the Ring Start program after teaching her to skate. A few years into her ringette career, he began to get more involved as an on-ice helper and loved it. He took that opportunity to learn the game rules and strategies. Over those years, he had the opportunity to learn from some highly-skilled coaches who were great mentors. Over the past few years, Steve has been provided the opportunity to take on coaching roles, which has allowed him to expand his knowledge of the game and while mentoring some amazing young talent.
Steve's coaching philosophy is rooted in player-centered development while maintaining a team-holistic approach. Coaching remains to be one of his most rewarding experiences.
Jessica Ring - Assistant Coach
Jessica grew up playing for Dartmouth Ringette, where she developed a love for the game and its incredible community. After moving back to Nova Scotia in 2019, she began coaching with Harbour City Lakers, eager to give back to the sport. Since then, she has coached teams from U10 to U16, watched players grow and develop over the years, and learned from other highly skilled coaches.
With a strong belief that ringette should be fun and engaging, Jessica focuses on creating a positive, supportive environment where athletes can build their skills, grow their confidence, and develop a lasting love for the sport. Her ultimate goal is to inspire players to become lifelong athletes, fostering a passion for ringette that extends far beyond their time on the ice.
Angela Mimnagh - Assistant Coach
Angela joins the Scotia Storm Ringette coaching staff as an Assistant Coach, bringing a strong passion for the sport and a commitment to fostering a positive team environment. With many years of experience in ringette, Angela began her journey as a player with Markham, Ontario, before transitioning to a Team Manager role with the Nova Central Ringette Association. It was during this time that she discovered her passion for being actively involved on the bench and on the ice with the players.
Angela has a solid understanding of the technical skills required for players to excel in ringette. She believes that while skill development is essential, creating a sense of belonging and enjoyment within the team is equally important. Angela looks forward to witnessing the growth of each player and the joy on their faces as they experience success on the ice.
Nick Dempsey - Assistant Coach
Nick brings elite coaching experience and training from multiple sports to our Scotia Storm Ringette Program, with a desire to be part of a program that contributes to the development of high-performance athletes. He is dedicated to ensuring that every athlete has a positive experience, develops their skills and abilities, and develops as a well-rounded individual. He encourages commitment, positivity, hard work, effort, mental toughness, respect, sportsmanship, integrity, shared leadership, and teamwork. Nick continues to seek out development and learning opportunities as a coach, while utilizing his strengths, experience, and leadership to support the players and coaching team.
